College & Career Readiness

Steel City Squash Academy is committed to providing our students with the direction and resources to achieve their postsecondary goals. Our College & Career Readiness program focuses on helping students best envision their future by exposing them to a wide range of career options and having them experience a variety of college campuses.

Once our students reach high school, one practice a week becomes dedicated college & career prep. These weekly sessions include Career Nights, standardized test prep through Winward Academy, and eventually, one-on-one guidance with college applications and managing financial aid.

Program Goals:

  • 100% high school graduation

  • 100% college or trade school enrollment

  • Campus visits to a variety of post-secondary institutions

  • Regular interaction with professionals from various careers

  • Career Exploration

Through trips to local businesses, career research projects, our annual SCS Career Night, and summer internships and camps, we work to ignite our students' vision for their own futures.

  • College Preparation

As our students reach their junior and senior years of high school, our programming helps with standardized test prep, college applications, and managing financial aid.

Our Students

The students currently enrolled in our program are in 4th through 11th grade. As our 9th, 10th, and 11th graders move through high school we will continue to support them with the goal of helping them prepare for and get in to college. At full capacity, our program will support youth in 4th through 12th grade.

Students are recruited from partner schools around Pittsburgh including The Neighborhood Academy, St. Benedict the Moore School of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Science and Technology Academy, and Pittsburgh Miller African Centered Academy.
